BIOGRAPHY
David Drew Pinsky is an American doctor who specializes in
addiction medicine. He rose to popularity in
the 1990s as the creator and co-host of the radio program Loveline, on which he offers advice to
teenagers and young adults on subjects including relationships, drugs and alcohol, mental illness, and
sexuality. For several years, the show was also broadcast on MTV. Currently, Dr. Pinsky is receiving
acclaim for his VH1 program Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, which offers a no-frills look at
addiction recovery.
Dr. Pinsky, or "Dr. Drew," has been involved in many other projects in addition to Loveline and
Celebrity Rehab, including authoring bestselling books and many articles, serving as a regular
commentator for national media outlets, multiple series and specials on the Discovery Networks, providing
medical care to contestants on reality television programs, and even periodically acting on television and
in film.
Dr. Pinsky was raised in Pasadena, California, where he was born on September 4, 1958. The son of a doctor
and an actor, he attended private schools, including the elite Polytechnic School, where he was president of
the student body and captain of the football team. He went on to attend Amherst College, from which he
graduated in 1980 with a degree in biology. He earned his doctorate in medicine from the University of
Southern California School of Medicine in 1984 and became chief resident at Huntington Memorial Hospital in
Pasadena. He now teaches at USC's Keck School of Medicine.
Dr. Pinsky has been married to former model, Susan Sailer, since 1991. They have triplets – two boys
and one girl – and live in Pasadena.
