I go through books like people go through...whatever they go through a lot. Reading is my world. I can get lost in books for hours. Novels, historical fiction, essay collections, short stories -- it doesn't matter. If it's a book, I'll read it.

My favorite is the Bible, and always will be. Not only is it the guide to life (in my opinion), it's also filled with incredible amounts of history. The Old Testament was always my favorite when I was younger, because I loved the stories of people like Moses, Noah, Abraham, Rahab, Job, and David. They're so vividly told, and they're entirely engrossing. Nowadays, however, I'm starting to feel more of a connection with the New Testament. I suppose that's a natural transition. As a child, it's hard to appreciate the wisdom of Jesus and the magnitude of his works on Earth, but as you get older, they really start to inspire you. Hebrews 11 is my favorite chapter. I'm not sure what my favorite book is.

My two favorite novels are To Kill a Mockingbird and Animal Farm. I loved the Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys series growing up, and still reread them occasionally when I'm bored or feeling nostalgic. I love reading essays, and am always looking for new compilations of them. Books on local history tend to be favorites, as well as guides to other countries like Ireland and Germany.

If you'd like to see which of the top 100 novels of the 20th century (as determined by two seperate groups) I've read, you can view the lists here.
