My favorite movie is hard to choose. The top contenders are To Kill a Mockingbird, Arsenic & Old Lace, It Happened One Night, and Dr. Strangelove. Those are movies that, no matter what, if they're on television, I will drop whatever I'm doing and sit down and watch. No matter how many times I see them, I still adore them each.
I'm a huge Hitchcock fan. I've been collecting a lot of his earliest films, especially the ones that he made in England, and they're incredible. I like him because he worked in suspense and intrigue rather than horror. His films are psychologically frightening, not gruesomely so. Modern-day horror flicks turn me off. I love suspense, though, especially Hitchcock.
Other movies that I particularly enjoy are Dead Poet's Society, Stalag 17, and The Court Jester (which my brother introduced me to and for which I will forever be thankful).
Not all of the movies I watch are higher-brow, however. I can recite every single line of Billy Madison and The Goonies along with the movies. The first two Austin Powers movies had me hysterical, though I've yet to see the third. Jack Ryan and Indiana Jones movies are also favorites of mine, as are Clueless and Can't Hardly Wait. Regardless of how dorky it is, I also stand by WarGames as one of the best movies of all-time (or at least the mid-80s).
It takes a lot for me to truly hate a movie, but there are a few which I can't tolerate. First and foremost is Zoolander. There is no excuse for that movie, and anyone who enjoyed it is insane. Most recent Disney films have been torturous affairs, though the ones by Pixar are nearly flawless. I don't understand the obsession with Star Wars, but I've sat through two of them now. I'm in no rush to see the others. SpiceWorld is officially the only movie I've seen that was so bad, it wasn't even funny-bad. It was brutal bad. I was extremely disappointed, since I was hoping for some Glitter-type comedy.
I have never seen The Wizard of Oz, and don't plan on ever doing so.
